Profile of Berufskolleg Lübbecke
Berufskolleg Lübbecke is a modern, innovative school situated in the city of Lübbecke/North Rhine-Westphalia between Osnabrück and Hanover. With over 3,600 students and about 150 teachers, it is one of the largest vocational colleges in the region. The school offers a broad spectrum of full-time and part-time courses of study in the areas of business administration, technology, social education and health, domestic and nutritional science. With its state-of-the-art equipment and path-breaking educational opportunities, it provides ideal conditions to learn.
Germany has a long-established tradition of training programmes for young professionals to qualify in several professions generally called the "dual system". During a period of generally three years trainees attend courses at a vocational school two days a week or in blocks of several weeks and at the same time they work and are trained in a local business. At the end of this training period they sit for an examination before the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and will obtain a professional title. Berufskolleg Lübbecke offers training programmes in installation engineering, building technology (carpenter and bricklayer), electrical engineering, domestic and nutritional science, interior design, wood technology, information technology, personal hygiene, medical technology, metalwork, social education and health as well as business administration.
Apart from the vocational branch, Berufskolleg Lübbecke offers full-time courses allowing students to do their “Abitur” (equivalent to the British A levels) in business administration and social education. Several courses of study in business administration, technology, social education and health, domestic and nutritional science lead to the “Fachhochschulreife” (advanced vocational certificate of education), which enables the students to study at a university of applied sciences.
Lübbecke and its surroundings provide a variety of sights such as the Barre brewery and museum, the King´s Mill or the visitors´ centre of the peat bog. The picturesque location on the Westphalian Mill Route between the Mittelland Canal and the Wiehen Hills offers excellent leisure opportunities, for example cycling and hiking or undertaking excursions to the nearby nature reserve. Lübbecke is home of the sports club TuS Nettelstedt-Lübbecke, which competes in the First League of Handball. Cities such as Osnabrück and Bielefeld are within easy reach by car or train. Foreign language courses
Having excellent foreign language skills is essential to communicate successfully worldwide. Therefore, English courses at various levels are obligatory for all of our students. Furthermore, we offer French and Spanish courses to our A-level students and to those who are studying towards their advanced vocational certificate of education.
In addition to our mandatory courses, our students can choose between a wide range of foreign language courses which lead to internationally well-known certificates such as the LCCI English for Business, issued by the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) and the Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE).
Moreover, we offer preparatory courses in order to obtain Spanish and French certificates such as the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE), issued by the Cervantes Institute and the Diplôme d´Etudes en Langue Française (DELF), issued by the International Centre for French Studies for France´s Ministry of Education.
Our part-time students who are doing a traineeship as industrial business management assistants have the opportunity to sit an English exam before the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) in order to obtain the certificate IHK Zusatzqualifikation Fremdsprachen, a Business English certificate that is highly appreciated by many employers.
Berufskolleg Lübbecke goes abroad
We believe that intercultural and foreign language skills belong to the key competences for being successful in working life. Thus, we are constantly searching for new school partnerships throughout Europe in order to enable our students to go abroad and to enhance their foreign language and intercultural skills.
